Research Associate, NanoBios Lab, IIT Bombay
Akshay Bharti is a Project Associate at the NanoBios Lab, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India. His research focuses on the development of translational biomaterials for biomedical applications, particularly the design and characterization of a sprayable liquid bandage that forms a protective barrier over wounds to prevent infection and support tissue healing.
Akshay completed his Master of Science from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2025. During his master’s thesis at the Cellular Biophysics Lab, IIT Bombay, under the supervision of Prof. Shamik Sen, he investigated the molecular interaction between MMP9 and CD44 and its role in promoting cancer metastasis, contributing to the understanding of extracellular matrix remodeling and tumor cell migration.
His broader interests include biomaterials, wound healing technologies, nanomedicine, and translational biomedical research, with a focus on developing clinically relevant therapeutic solutions.
Background: MSc in Biotechnology from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
